In connection to Monday’s inauguration of Stockholm Fashion Week 8-14 August fashion brand Obscur was announced “Rookies of the Year 2011”. Other candidates to the award were the designers behind the brands Erïk Bjerkesjö, Karin Malm, Josefin Strid and Granfors.
In the selection to Rookies the jury has judged the fashion degree, design quality, product quality and the business idea/commercialisation. In the nomination process of “Rookies of the Year 2011” the jury has also evaluated the creative expression/process and the personality behind the brand. The five nominees were chosen by the Rookies jury in February because they in a convincing way had shown that they were on their way to establish a promising and interesting brand.
Motivation: “The ’Rookies of the Year, 2011’ award goes to a brand that for several seasons has demonstrated a substantial feeling for material, construction and look, where the graphic always goes hand in hand with the final product. The creative work shows great courage, a feeling of infiniteness and that everything is possible. This brand lets the clothes talk. The very strong expressions of the collections vouch for success and increasing establishment, inside and outside the borders of Sweden.”
The price of ”Rookies of The Year 2011” includes a scholarship of 20 000 SEK from Swedish Trade Federation STIL, the challenge price “Black Panther designed by Åsa Jungnelius for Kosta Boda, an advertisement in Swedish fashion magazine DV Mode, the new smartphone Nokia N9 and an exhibition in the shop Aplace in Brunogallerian in Stockholm. In addition the winner also gets to create a collection for La Redoute. New for 2011: Besides a value check of 10 000 SEK for the printing of a lookbook to the winner Rookies’ sponsor Digaloo also gives out value checks of 5 000 SEK to each of other four nominated brands.
Earlier recievers of the award ”Rookies of the Year” has been fashion brand Dagmar (2005), jewellery brand Dada’s Diamonds (2006), van Deurs (2007), Uniforms for the Dedicated (2008), Patouf (2009) och Ida Pyk (2010).
